In addition to crafting traditional Shaker furniture, I create original fine art inspired by history, everyday life, and the natural world. My watercolor paintings capture the quiet beauty and timeless architecture of Shaker villages, while my pen and ink drawings explore the energy and character of the human figure and urban street scenes. I also enjoy fine art photography, from landscapes and historic subjects to the wonders of the night sky. Through astrophotography, I photograph deep-sky objects such as glowing nebulae, distant galaxies, and star clusters, revealing the remarkable beauty of the universe beyond what the eye can see. Whether working with wood, paint, ink, or a camera, my goal is the same—to create thoughtful, enduring work that reflects craftsmanship, observation, and a deep appreciation for both history and nature.
My first watercolor painting was a rainbow trout, a subject that combined my appreciation for nature with the challenge of capturing the subtle colors and movement of the fish. The iridescent hues, delicate markings, and reflective qualities of the trout made it an ideal introduction to watercolor, a medium known for its transparency and luminosity. That first painting sparked a lasting interest in watercolor and began a journey of exploring light, color, and detail through fine art. It remains a meaningful milestone in my artistic development and reflects the same patience and careful observation that I bring to all of my work.
